The
Area
Swaledale
is a beautiful place to be at any time of the year
Springtime abounds with new life - wild flowers beginning to bloom, lambs being born, continuous bird song as they prepare their nests. Swaledale also has its own two-week festival at the end of spring, with many events to enjoy.
In Summer, the long days give plenty of time for hill-walking, picnics, touring or simply admiring the breathtaking views of the hills in all their varying shades of green, the wildflower meadows and the moorland heather with its purple hue.
As
Autumn creeps in the countryside displays a wealth of colours as the leaves begin to turn and the dales are still often blessed with sunshine.
The shorter days of Winter should not be understated - the landscape can still be enjoyed, days are crisp and enhance the enjoyment of returning to a warming log fire or hot bath.
The Burgoyne can provide compasses and detailed maps for both the serious and less serious walker and information on daylong walks and local rambles through some of the most beautiful scenery in England. With prior notice packed lunches can be provided for daylong activities.
The Dales are alive with traditional and contemporary arts and crafts. These range from hands-on farming to crafts as diverse as exotic hand-made teapots, rugs, pottery, musical instruments and the famous Wensleydale and Swaledale cheeses. There are also galleries exhibiting the works of local artists.
For guests who like to shop as well as relax, the Burgoyne is ideally situated within easy reach of Richmond, Barnard Castle, Darlington, York, Harrogate, Newcastle and Leeds.
